Travellers Palm (ravenala madagascariensis)

Ravenala madagascariensis, commonly known as traveller’s palm. The common name is thought to refer to how travellers could be refreshed in an emergency by drinking the water that has collected in the cup-like leaf bases. However, the water inside the plant is murky, black and smelly and should not be consumed without purification.

Height : The plant grows to an average height of 7 m (23 ft).
Light : The plant requires a sunny spot (not full sun until it is larger).
Humidity : Requires high humidity.
Uses : Planted around the lawn and beside small roads or entrance to the building.
